Wi-Fi 6 vs. Ethernet for gaming

I just upgraded to a Wi-Fi 6 router, and the speeds are great on my phone. However, my gaming PC, which is two rooms away, still shows high ping spikes in competitive games. Question: Is Wi-Fi 6 actually stable enough for competitive FPS gaming, or is a wired Ethernet connection still the only real solution to avoid latency spikes?
